Yakkity Yak
If you’re like me and love kayaking, I bet you’re hoping to get in a few more kayak trips before the weather changes. Kayaking is a sport and a means of relaxation. 2022 has been a rough year so far, and gas prices aren’t looking too friendly either. I hope this writeup helps you find some awesome spots near you to drop in and experience that magical peace that one can only find on the water in a remote location.
Where to Begin
We all need some help from time to time, and what better place than a kayaking forum to get your help. There are several good forums out there, but specifically, I recommend the Paddling Forum. It is exclusive to the U.S.A., and I have found some excellent info on there. Depending on where you are in the U.S.A., different forums are for kayaking opportunities in different states, areas, or coasts. This list of forums should help get you going. Also, don’t forget about your friend Google Search. Type in which state you are interested in for kayaking and what type of kayaking you are looking to enjoy, and you should be cruising towards success soon!
Angler and Leisure Kayaking
Some people like a fast and wild time while other people like to enjoy the scenery and do a little soul searching. Of course, there’s also some people who just want to fish. If fishing is your thing, a beautiful place with tons of fish is what you are hoping to find. You can find a good amount of info in Kayak Angler. There are so many helpful and amazing lists online of the most scenic places to kayak. My personal favorite is the Buffalo River in Arkansas. The Ozark Mountains are one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, and the purple-clear water reflects the rocks on the cliffs. In some places on Buffalo River, the water is aquamarine and crystal clear. While this may be a breathtaking place to leisurely kayak, it is also one of the best whitewater kayaking spots in the U.S.A. From January to March, the snow melts and provides extra water to the Buffalo River, which is normally shallow. The river turns into a major whitewater play zone because of all of the boulders in the water.
Whitewater and Thrill Seeking Kayaking
Looking for a little excitement but don’t really have any whitewater kayaking skills? You can go to the Olympic Training Center for Kayaking at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Whitewater kayaking generally relies heavily on rainfall, but at the manmade Charlotte Whitewater Center, the water is always perfect. There are so many excellent places to white water kayak in the U.S., I’m sure many are undiscovered still. This list of whitewater kayaking spots is just one of many you can find online. Looking for some extra daredevil style paddling? Check out these spots.
Paddle On
Wherever you decide to kayak, always remember to take a GPS, phone, dry bags, and a friend. It is dangerous to kayak alone when you’re braving extreme rapids. You want to always let people know where you’ll be going and where and when you plan to end up. This is a good article to read before you get your feet wet. Wherever you end up, I hope you have the adventure of a lifetime!
